IAG's handling company, South, adds new airlines in Spain during the summer.
JetBlue, MGA Airlines, and Sichuan Airlines South Europe Ground Services’ client portfolio this summer season, expanding the operations of IAG Group’s ground handling subsidiary at various airports across Spain. The company will manage over 260 flights associated with these new routes.
U.S. carrier JetBlue will launch a daily connection between Boston and Madrid starting May 23, operating Airbus A321LR aircraft. The service will run throughout the summer, departing from Terminal 1 at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, where South will provide ramp and enger handling services. JetBlue is also planning to add a second daily route from New York-JFK in the summer of 2026.
Turkish airline MGA Airlines (Mavi Gök Airline) has entrusted South with handling its flights from Istanbul to Zaragoza, León, and Santiago de Compostela, using Boeing 737 aircraft since April 16.
From China, Sichuan Airlines launched a new route on April 27, connecting Chengdu and Tianfu with Madrid. The airline operates four weekly flights with Airbus A350 and A330 aircraft, each carrying approximately 300 engers.
In addition to these new additions, South is increasing its activity with existing partners. Canary Islands-based Binter has introduced new routes linking the islands with Córdoba, Almería, and Badajoz, operating twice weekly. It is also increasing frequencies between Gran Canaria and Vigo, Santander, and Jerez, as well as between Tenerife and San Sebastián, Pamplona, and Murcia. According to the company, these routes will serve 1.4 million engers.
Jet2.com is also expanding its operations from Jerez de la Frontera, adding new routes to Birmingham, Leeds Bradford, and Manchester, all ed by South.
“The summer season has just begun, and the increase in engers and flights is already noticeable at the airports. At South, we are ready to meet the handling service demands of our client airlines. South currently operates at 38 airports across Spain, providing ramp and enger assistance services for IAG Group airlines, as well as working with third-party carriers.
